Sometimes I recycle my work. The initial series that is the basis for the work you see here started in 2006, when I prepared some 20 identical small canvases to establish a certain flow in my work and transport the lightness of a small sketch onto a more solid surface. The sketch as an object.... I showed the serie in 2006 in what was then Galerie Van Wijngaarden in Amsterdam. 20 years later i revisited them and used them as an underground for the numerous tubes of oilpaint that ask for being used. The best way to use them is to paint. I honour and showcase the material in a gesture that is evenly anihilating as creating. The painting kind of paints itself. It is bold and minimalist and the most of all really a surprise, that they look so simple.
